Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

Prior to your rhinoplasty procedure, you’ll have a consultation appointment with Dr. Kris Day at our Bellevue office. This is when he’ll ask you questions about what you are hoping to change or fix about your nose and what your desired shape and size are. Dr. Day will walk you through before and after photos to help you narrow down what you are looking for. He will then analyze your nose, facial shape, and other facial features to form a best-fit plan of action that you are comfortable with.

Good Candidates for a Rhinoplasty

If you’re in reasonably good health, have reached facial maturity (usually at least 15 years of age), and would like to adjust the size and shape of your nose, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. A nose job may also be a smart choice if you have breathing challenges from a deviated septum or lingering aesthetic concerns due to a broken nose. Preparing for a Rhinoplasty Procedure

For best results, we suggest you cease any tobacco use at least six weeks before your rhinoplasty, as it can increase the risk of complications. You can expect Dr. Day and his team to review your medications, supplements, and vitamins so they can inform you of which ones to stop prior to your procedure. Be sure to arrange transportation for after your nose job, as you won’t be able to drive yourself home.

What to Expect During a Rhinoplasty Procedure

He uses autogenous principles during rhinoplasty procedures, which involve pieces of your own tissue instead of plastic to perform the procedure, and pairs them with the latest surgical techniques. The specifics of your unique procedure, however, will depend on your goals and the aesthetic preferences you decided on during your consultation.

Your rhinoplasty is a 3-4 hour procedure in which you are given a general anesthetic. It will take place in our accredited plastic surgery center in Bellevue. Dr. Day will ensure that you are completely comfortable and that any questions you have are answered on the day of your rhinoplasty.

Recovering From a Rhinoplasty

​​After a rhinoplasty, you’ll need to wear a special nasal splint that will aid with the healing process. You’ll also be asked to elevate your head for a few days. Even though you might experience a stuffy nose, you should be able to breathe comfortably through your mouth. Dr. Day may recommend a nasal spray that will help keep the inside of your nose clean and moisturized. You may experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort, for which Dr. Day can prescribe pain medications. You’ll likely need to take at least one week off work and avoid strenuous activities for up to three weeks to properly recover.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rhinoplasty

The results of your nose job will depend on the specific goals of the procedure. However, most patients treated with a nose job often enjoy a more attractive nose, improved facial balance and symmetry, a nasal shape that blends in well with other facial features, and easier breathing. Dr. Day will go over what you can expect prior to your rhinoplasty in Bellevue.

Like any other surgery, a nose job comes with some risks. These include facial numbness, swelling, bruising, pain, bleeding, infections, and hematomas. Fortunately, our plastic surgeon Dr. Kris Day is specifically trained in surgery of the nose and has the experience and resources to reduce the risks as much as possible.

If you believe a revision rhinoplasty is necessary, the tissue will need to settle first. We recommend you ideally wait at least 12 months before undergoing a revision. Dr. Day can evaluate your healing and provide a sound recommendation in regard to your next rhinoplasty.

Your nose typically stops growing by age 15 or 16 for females and around age 16 to 17 in males. Therefore, we generally do not recommend a rhinoplasty in anyone under 15 years of age.

The cost of rhinoplasty varies from patient to patient and depends on the complexity of the procedure. Dr. Day will discuss pricing during your consultation.
