With Type 1, the least invasive approach, Dr. Kris Day uses a burr to shave down the brow bone.
Type II combines shaving down the bone and using bone cement to fill the area above it.
Also known as a forehead reconstruction, Type III removes the bone that’s located above the frontal sinus so it can then be reshaped and replaced.
During Type IV, Dr. Day reconstructs the forehead and places a significant amount of bone cement in the hollows to allow for a smoother, more feminine curve.
In most cases, brow bone/forehead reduction is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. You’ll likely experience some pain and soreness for a few days after the surgery. Fortunately, prescription pain medication will improve comfort and keep the pain at bay.
Initially, your scalp will be completely numb above the incision, but the feeling will slowly but surely come back within months. While the scar will be visible at first, it will eventually fade away as new hairs naturally grow through it. Yes. Since Dr. Day will make an incision in the scalp, there will be a scar. The good news is hair will grow in the scar area and disguise it over time.
General anesthesia is administered before Dr. Day performs brow bone reduction. As a result, you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. However, there will be some pain after the surgery that can be managed with pain medications.
Compared to female brow bones, male brow bones are longer and larger. The brow bone usually has more projection, which leads to an apparent protrusion in the area where the forehead meets the nose. A female brow bone is typically more curved.
Since the brow bone won’t grow back, a brow bone reduction surgery is permanent. It’s important to keep in mind that injuries or other procedures you choose to undergo may alter your results.
