WHAT IS FACELIFT?

Our face is what we use to interact with friends, loved ones, colleagues, and strangers alike. It should therefore come as no surprise that many consider a facelift, or rhytidectomy, to look our best. Because for many, looking our best help navigate our world. Whether it be to “turn back the clock” on facial aging, to eliminate specific imperfections or asymmetries of the face, to enhance the facial harmony, or to simply rejuvenate one’s overall facial appearance, a facelift can powerfully revitalize youthful appearance.

The face undergoes predictable changes with aging, most of which can be improved with a rhytidectomy, which is sometimes combined with other procedures, such as a: neck lift, eyelid procedures like blepharoplasty, fat grafting for greater facial fullness, or skin resurfacing by chemical peel or laser treatment. Some specific features that a facelift can therefore address are:

  • Wrinkling throughout the face and neck
  • Smoothing of specific facial contours, such as:
  • Forehead creases, crow’s feet, marionette lines, bunny lines, upper eyelid hooding, tear trough deformities, nasolabial folds, lower jaw jowling, or plastymal (neck) banding
  • Sagging tissues of the face and neck
  • Loose skin of the face and neck
  • Loss of facial fullness, such as cheekbone projection
  • Asymmetric facial features
  • Loss of youthful facial appearance
  • Loss of youthful vibrant, positive facial aesthetic

If you are interested in a facelift, remember that this procedure requires surgery in an operating room and you should expect some recovery time. Facelift is usually performed by a surgeon with advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery or other specific facial surgery expertise. In good candidates, the procedure can be performed as an outpatient in an ambulatory surgical center, though complex procedures may take longer and require more recovery time. A more youthful and improved face and neck appearance can be achieved with this powerful procedure.
